This policy explains how DashRecap ("we", "us") handles personal information collected through the website dashrecap.com. We follow the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).

1. Who is responsible

DashRecap is an independent editorial desk publishing reviews of free mobile games for readers in Australia. We are the entity responsible for the personal information described here. For any privacy question, or to reach our privacy officer, write to review@dashrecap.com.

2. What we collect

  • Technical data from your visit: IP address, user-agent string, browser and device type, screen size, language setting, the page that referred you, and the date and time of each request. This data reaches us through standard server logs.
  • Cookies and similar technologies: small files placed in your browser for essential functions, anonymous statistics and advertising measurement. See our Cookie Policy for the full list of categories and durations.
  • Subscription form data: the name you choose to provide (optional), your e-mail address, and a record of the consent you gave, together with the time it was given.
  • Plus membership data: your e-mail address, the status of your membership (requested, confirmed, active or cancelled) and the dates attached to it. Card details are entered on the secure page of our payment provider and are never received or stored by this site.
  • Push subscription identifiers: if you allow browser notifications, a subscription identifier and basic device attributes are created and stored by our push provider so that a message can be delivered to your browser.

We do not ask for a phone number, a postal address or any government identifier, and we do not collect sensitive information as defined by the Privacy Act 1988.

3. Why we use it and on what basis

  • To operate and secure the website, keep it available and diagnose faults — our legitimate function as the site operator.
  • To send catalogue updates by e-mail or browser notification — only where you have given consent through the form or the browser prompt.
  • To run the Plus membership: to confirm a seat, deliver the digest and the extended write-ups, and keep a record of the membership status — necessary to supply the service you asked for and to meet our obligations to you.
  • To measure how sections of the site are used, in aggregate, so the catalogue can be improved.
  • To measure advertising placements shown on the site, where you have accepted the relevant cookie category.

Consent is the basis for the subscription list, browser notifications and non-essential cookies. You may revoke that consent at any time, as set out in section 7.

4. How long we keep it

  • Server logs: up to 12 months, then deleted or aggregated beyond identification.
  • Subscription data (name, e-mail, consent record): until you ask to be removed from the list, or after 24 months of no interaction.
  • Push subscription identifiers: until you revoke notification permission in your browser or the subscription expires.
  • Plus membership records (e-mail, status, dates): for as long as the membership runs, and afterwards only as long as Australian tax and record-keeping law requires, generally five years from the last transaction.
  • Cookie lifetimes: as listed in the Cookie Policy.

5. Who else may handle your information

We do not sell personal information. We share it only with service providers that help us run the site, and only for that purpose:

  • Hosting and content delivery providers — they process server requests and store logs on our behalf.
  • OneSignal — acts as our processor for browser push subscriptions and for e-mail addresses submitted through the subscription form. OneSignal stores the subscription identifier and the address, and delivers the messages we compose.
  • Payment provider — processes Plus membership payments on its own secure page and holds the card details you enter there. We receive confirmation that a payment succeeded, the membership status and the date, never the card number.
  • Advertising and measurement networks — where you have accepted advertising cookies, these providers may receive technical identifiers to measure placements shown on the site.
  • Public authorities — only where disclosure is required by Australian law.

Some of these providers store data on servers outside Australia, including in the United States and the European Union. Where that happens we take reasonable steps, consistent with APP 8, to ensure the recipient handles your information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles.

6. Cookies

The cookie banner shown on your first visit records whether you accept or decline non-essential cookies, and your choice is stored locally in your browser. Categories, purposes and storage periods are described in the Cookie Policy.

7. Your rights under the Privacy Act 1988

  • Access (APP 12): you may ask what personal information we hold about you and receive a copy.
  • Correction (APP 13): you may ask us to correct information that is inaccurate, out of date or incomplete.
  • Deletion: you may ask us to remove your address from the subscription list and delete the related record.
  • Revoking consent: you may revoke consent for e-mail updates, browser notifications or non-essential cookies at any time, without giving a reason.
  • Anonymity (APP 2): you may read the whole catalogue without identifying yourself; the subscription form is entirely optional.

Send any request to review@dashrecap.com. We answer within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you may lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC), the national privacy regulator, at oaic.gov.au.

8. Security

The site is served over an encrypted connection (HTTPS). Access to subscription data is limited to the people who prepare the mailing, protected by individual accounts and two-factor authentication. Our providers are selected on the strength of their published security practices. No online service can promise absolute protection, but we take reasonable steps to protect information from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure, as APP 11 requires.

9. Children

The site is written for a general adult audience and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has sent us their details, contact us and we will delete the record.

10. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the revised version is published on this page with a new "Last updated" date. Material changes affecting the subscription list are announced in the next update we send.
