Cookie Policy
Last updated: 17 August 2026 · Effective from 17 August 2026
1. What a cookie is
A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store on your device. On the next visit the browser sends it back, so the site can recognise the session and remember settings. Similar technologies — local storage, session storage and service workers — do comparable work and are covered by this policy as well.
2. Why DashRecap uses them
We use a deliberately small set: enough to keep the site working, to understand in aggregate which parts of the catalogue are read, and to measure the advertising that keeps the site free. We do not use cookies to build a profile of you as an individual, and we do not sell the data they generate.
3. Categories we use
| Category | What it does | Set by | Storage period |
|---|---|---|---|
| Essential | Keeps the site usable: remembers your answer to the cookie banner, holds the state of interface elements during a visit, and supports basic security and load balancing. These cannot be switched off without breaking the page. | DashRecap, hosting provider | Session to 12 months |
| Analytics | Counts visits and page views in aggregate, shows which sections are read and where readers leave. Reports are statistical; individual readers are not identified. | DashRecap, measurement provider | Up to 13 months |
| Advertising and marketing | Measures the advertising placements shown on this site, limits how often the same promotion is displayed, and records whether a click led to a Google Play listing. | Advertising networks | Up to 13 months |
| Push subscription | Stores the identifier your browser needs to receive catalogue notifications, created only if you accept the browser prompt. | OneSignal | Until you revoke permission |
4. Local storage entries
Alongside cookies, this site writes a small number of entries to your browser's local storage. The most important is the record of your answer to the cookie banner, stored under the key dashrecap-cookie-choice, so the banner does not appear again on every page. Local storage entries stay until you clear site data in your browser.
Your Plus membership status is not written to a cookie or to local storage. It is held by our mailing provider against your e-mail address, so nothing about a membership can be read from this browser.
5. Your choice and how to change it
On your first visit a banner asks whether you accept non-essential cookies. Choosing Accept allows the analytics and advertising categories; choosing Decline keeps only the essential ones. The catalogue is fully readable either way.
To change a choice already made, clear the site data for dashrecap.com in your browser settings and reload the page — the banner will appear again. You can also block or delete cookies entirely:
- In most desktop browsers: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and site data.
- In most mobile browsers: Settings → Site settings → Cookies, or Privacy → Clear browsing data.
- Private or incognito windows discard cookies and local storage when the window closes.
Blocking all cookies is allowed and the catalogue will still open, but some interface preferences may not be remembered between visits.
6. How this relates to push notifications
Browser notifications are separate from cookies and require their own permission, requested by your browser when you subscribe. If you accept, our push provider stores a subscription identifier for your browser. You can revoke that permission at any time in the site settings of your browser, and the subscription stops immediately. Declining cookies does not subscribe or unsubscribe you from notifications, and revoking notifications does not change your cookie choice.
7. Third-party providers
Cookies in the analytics, advertising and push categories are set by service providers acting for us. Those providers process the data under their own privacy documentation and may store it outside Australia. What we receive from them, and how it is handled, is described in our Privacy Policy.
8. Changes to this policy
If the set of cookies changes, this page is updated and the "Last updated" date at the top changes with it. Significant changes reset the banner so you can make a fresh choice.
